Fort Worth, TX 76105
Dr. Gilbert will focus on the challenges presented to families in rearing children today, as well as the challenges they present in the consulting room. Psychotherapists, working with them, find Bowen family systems theory to be a useful guide in assisting them. The day will begin with the topic, “Connecting With Our Children,” involving lecture, discussion and break. Next, a clinical recording done the day before and discussion will be shown and explained to the audience. After lunch, the topic, “Struggles of Psychotherapists,” involving lecture and discussion, will include a recording that shows Dr. Gilbert and a trainee discussing the topic.
Some of the questions addressed will be:
-How does Bowen theory help the psychotherapist and/or parents in their struggles with the
young?
-What about medication?
-Who is to blame when children misbehave?
-How many need to be in the room to do family therapy?
-What are some of the pitfalls for therapists in psychotherapy with families?
