The Poetry of Realization
A week long retreat combining the teaching:
Poetry in Practice, Poetry as Practice,
given by Professor Lara Braitstein and a meditation intensive led by Dharma Teacher Tsony
March 1-7, 2015
Bodhi Path Natural Bridge
A time to study, reflect and meditate...
Teaching: From the time of the Buddha Shakyamuni to the present day, in every culture that has adopted Buddhism, accomplished masters have expressed their paths and realizations through poetry. Through closely reading inspiring translations of the work of Buddhist poets such as Ashvaghosha, Saraha, Milarepa, and others, Professor Lara Braitstein will lead us in exploring some of the many styles and goals of expressing the hardships of the path and the bliss of awakening. Lama Tsony’s meditation program will be based on and drawn from the Songs of Realization of Gendun Rinpoche.
Meditation: Dharma Teacher Tsony will supplement with a guided meditation program using Gendun Rinpoche songs of realization.
Lara Braitstein is a professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism at McGill University, (Montreal, Canada). She specializes in Mahayana & Vajrayana Buddhist Philosophy, Buddhist Hagiography, and Tibetan/Himalayan Buddhist literature and historiography. Recently she edited and translated Shamar Rinpoche’s book The Path To Awakening, and translated a series of Mahamudra poems by the 7th century C.E. mystic saint Saraha.
Tsony was a Buddhist monk for over 25 years. He completed two traditional 3-year retreats under the guidance of the great meditation master Gendun Rinpoche.
