Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT: Greenberg & Johnson, 1988; Johnson, 2004) is one of only two empirically validated approaches to couples therapy. It combines experiential, systemic, and attachment/relational theories to rework the emotional bond between partners. Repeatedly, change process studies on EFT spotlight that it’s the high levels of emotional experiencing in-session that leads to successful outcomes. Unfortunately, this is often the most difficult aspect for the therapist to implement. This workshop will overview the three stages of EFT, but will emphasize the nuances of working with emotion from session one on to completion in couples therapy.
This workshop includes a live session with a couple, facilitated by Dr. Bradley.
Dr. Bradley is Founder and President of The Couple Zone, a group practice with offices in Houston, Dallas, and Austin. He has a Ph.D. in MFT, and an MA in Theology from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, CA. He conducts ongoing research, publishes in peer reviewed journals, books, and more-popular contexts. Dr. Bradley is a Certified Emotionally Focused Couple Therapist (EFT) (www.iceeft.com). He is an AAMFT Clinical Member and Accredited Supervisor.
