Preventing Violence in the Workplace Webinar: Is workplace violence predictable? Is it preventable? Workplace violence ranges from threats and verbal abuse to physical assaults and homicide, the second leading cause of job-related deaths. Workplace Violence is a growing concern for employers and employees nationwide.
Workplace violence and homicides are ongoing threats for employers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, of the 4,547 workplace injuries resulting in death in 2010, 506 were homicides.
Approximately 500 employees suffer death from violence at work each year. Another 2,000,000 annually report being a victim of workplace violence, although the numbers may be greater as many cases are not reported or investigated. What can the employer do to assess the workplace for the potential of violence and; what policies and procedures can be implemented to prevent and protect employees from violent acts? Real-life stories and solutions are used to illustrate this topic.
Even though OSHA does not have a Standard that addresses Violence in the Workplace, a hazardous condition could be cited under the General Duty Clause
