Healthy weight control is essential for warding off a variety of chronic diseases. Studies have shown that slimmer people are much less likely to develop cancer, compared with their heavier counterparts. In addition, trimming excess weight may also improve survival after cancer has been diagnosed. This class will discuss & demonstrate fiber- & nutrient-rich dishes that will help you maintain a healthy weight.
Recipes include Quick Bean Burritos, Mango Salsa, Low-fat Guacamole, & Calabacitas.
NOTE: Organic ingredients will be used unless unavailable. All foods prepared in this class are 100% plant-based & completely free of dairy, egg, & peanuts. Gluten-free ingredients will be used when possible. Some dishes may contain gluten, but gluten-free alternatives will be provided. Some recipes may include corn or soy, in which case, certified organic non-GMO ingredients will be used. Soy-free options will be provided as well. If you are sensitive to tree nuts or any other foods, please let Deb know at the beginning of class.

About the PCRM Food for Life Cancer Project
Certain diet patterns seem to have a major effect on helping cancer survivors to live longer, healthier lives. Numerous studies have shown that a diet built from plant foods offers the most cancer-fighting protection of any diet plan. Reviews by the American Institute for Cancer Research showed that as much as 40% of cancer risk may be related to diet. The Food for Life: Cancer Project classes offer a unique opportunity to acquire knowledge about the link between diet & cancer, experience the benefits of plant-based nutrition & learn the practical cooking skills needed to help you on your journey to better health. In the Food for Life: Cancer Project classes, attendees do all of this while enjoying a cooking demonstration & tasting delicious, healthful dishes.
The Cancer Survivor’s Guide is the text used in the cancer classes. The book includes a wealth of nutrition information & more than 100 recipes! You may purchase a copy from your favorite retailer or directly from Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). It's also available as a FREE download on PCRM's web site.

OUR PHILOSOPHY:
SIMPLE, NUTRITIOUS, DELICIOUS
Our classes teach you how to prepare plant-based dishes, both raw & cooked, that are quick & easy so even busy people with no kitchen experience can make every day. Our recipes also call for ingredients that can be found in any local health food store & most grocery stores. No special ordering of expensive exotic foods required.
We focus on nutrient-dense whole foods that will nourish your body to keep you healthy & give you the energy to get through the day. And we want you to put the best foods available in your body so only organic ingredients are used whenever possible.
But really, it's all about the taste! Eating is an experience that should be enjoyed! We know you won't eat something if you don't like it, no matter how good it is for you. So we make sure our recipes are not just healthy, but satisfying & full of flavor, too.
THERE ARE SO MANY FREE RECIPES ONLINE. WHY TAKE A CLASS?
Yes, you can find plenty of recipes online & videos on YouTube - all for free. But Nourished Body classes are not just about the food; they are about the education. We can teach you more in 1-2 hours than what you might find surfing the internet for an entire day because we have already done the reading & have the experience. A live class provides an opportunity for you to interact with a real person, & ask questions & get practical answers that help you follow a healthy lifestyle every day. We also explain why some things are healthy & others are not. And of course, you also get to try the food to see if you like it before you spend a lot of money on a complicated recipe that calls for ingredients you've never even heard of.
Nourished Body classes are also about community. Attending a class makes you part of a group of like-minded people who are there to support you & your healthy lifestyle. We always have lively discussions about various topics (not always food-related), & many participants share their knowledge & experience so you get to learn from them as well.
