Phoenix, AZ 85007
Instructors: Rosa Lira from AZDHS and Jenny Mandeville ADOSH Training Officer
Arizona outdoor workers are at a significant risk of exposure to vector-borne diseases such as Dengue, Chikungunya, West Nile Virus, St Louis Encephalitis, Zika, Yellow Fever, Chagas, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lyme Disease and others.
This class is designed to introduce students to the risk workers face and the simple, yet effective controls that can be implemented. Since engineering controls are not available for the most part, we will need to rely on proactive administrative controls.
Rosa Lira from AZDHS will share the protocols for prevention, diagnosis and treatment that have been developed by epidemiologists for the State.
Jenny Mandeville will share some of the controls and requirements for protection of outdoor workers.
Of intense concern now is the spread of Zika Virus and the devastating birth defects and lingering illness Gillian-Barre Syndrome that can result from infection. We will discuss the latest news on these viruses and the way forward.
