Program and Guest Speakers
This year’s retreat will be led by John C. Dorhauer, General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ since 2015. He will discuss with us his book, Beyond Resistance: The Institutional Church Meets the Postmodern World.
John’s belief that “Our Best Days in the Church Are Ahead” is the theme of the retreat. To prepare for our time together, please read his book in advance. Copies may be purchased at www.amazon.com or www.uccresources.com.
The program will provide continuing education credit of 18 hours to participants who attend in full.

Also, on Sunday, September 25, 3 p.m., there will be a community-wide worship service at Central Union Church (1660 S. Beretania Street, Honolulu). The Rev. Dorhauer will give the sermon, and the Hawai'i Conference will affirm his installation as General Minister and President. All are welcome, and neighbor islands are encouraged to arrive the day before the retreat to particiapate in the worship service.
Registration and Cost
Registration fee of $100 covers all meals listed in the schedule. Registration deadline is Friday, August 26. A fee of $25 will be added for registrations received after this date.
Hotel Accommodations
Ala Moana Hotel has reserved a limited number of rooms for those attending the Clergy Retreat. The special rates are:
- $145 per night, plus taxes, for a Kona Tower room (single/double) *
- $165 per night, plus taxes, for a Waikiki Tower room (single/double) **
- $215 per night, plus taxes, for a Waikiki Tower room (triple) **
* Queen bed
** Choice of King or two Double Beds
These rates are good for three nights before or after the Clergy Retreat for those who wish to spend extra time on the island, subject to availability. Please note that the room rates listed do not include taxes (4.712% general excise and 9.25% transient accommodations).

When making your reservation, identify yourself as a member of the Hawai‘i Conference United Church of Christ (HCUCC).
A major credit card will be required to guarantee your reservation. Reservations must be made by 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, to receive these special rates. Reservations made after this date will be accepted at the prevailing room rates and are subject to availability.
Although the retreat begins at 10:00 a.m. on September 26, check-in time for the hotel is not until 3:00 p.m. If your room is not ready when you arrive to the hotel, the Front Office Services department can hold your luggage for you.
Parking
Self-parking is available at the hotel. Validated parking rates are $6 for up to 8 hours, $8 for 9-10 hours. Hotel guest parking is $25 per day. These rates do not include applicable taxes.
Air Transportation
Please make your own airline reservations, ensuring that you will be able to stay until 12 noon on September 28.
Ground Transportation
Ground transportation options include SpeediShuttle (http://www.speedishuttle.com/) and taxis.
Scholarships
