What happens when two postmodern therapy models collide into one? Magic.
Imagine working with clients and utilizing their direction to choose which path to travel in therapy. Imagine using their words to externalize or fantasize about what a preferred future would be like. Imagine using the narrative therapy approach to construct a vehicle for clients to move into the future, gathering their values and the meanings they seek their dreams. Then, imagine putting the wheels on the vehicle with solution focused therapy so that the clients move safely and securely toward change.
Whether the client presents issues such as marital discord, depression, anger, anxiety, OCD, ODD, ADD or trauma, SFNT can assist them in a way that is both forward moving yet meaningful, enriching the dialogue with the client’s words, leaving the client feeling heard and in charge.
Based on a new book, Solution Focused Narrative Therapy (Springer, 2017), this workshop will provide a glimpse into how two models can make magic for clients and... therapists. Participants will learn the basic tenets of SFNT, see video cases and engage in experiential exercises so they can experience the new model A live session will be conducted at 1 pm.
Linda Metcalf, M.Ed., PhD is the author of ten books on solution focused therapy and co-author of two books.
