Montana Alpine Adventures' BSSEF Backcountry Skills Camp is an excellent way to experience the backcountry safely, lay a solid groundwork of skills, ski a lot, and explore some of the most beautiful peaks in Montana!
Your professional, experienced guides and instructors will cover a broad variety of backcountry topics including avalanche awareness and basic rescue strategies, essential skinning techniques, transitions, route selection and group management, packing and gear tips & tricks, and trip planning strategies. The goal of this weekend is to make the backcountry as fun and pain-free as possible, and give you the basic tools necessary to continue your mountain education (like taking a Level 1 Avalanche Course)--with plenty of skiing and high-country exploration, of course.
And with a maximum class size of eight (vs. up to 18 in other courses), students receive personalized attention and the best quality experience possible, while meeting like-minded skiers and riders.
Price includes professional guiding and instruction, two nights at beautiful Bell Lake Yurt, all snacks, beverages and delicious, homestyle meals, and tons of skiing!
Guests will need touring bindings and skins or a splitboard (no snowshoes, please), an avalanche transciever, shovel, and probe, and sleeping bag. Gear rentals are available at very reasonable prices at local shops and through Montana Alpine Adventures, and we're happy to help set you up for success. Please call 406-581-5754 for details.
NOTE: The approach to our yurt is 2.6 miles and 1,600 feet, which usually takes around three hours of skinning with a daypack and sleeping bag. Please be physically prepared.
