FOOD FOR BREAST CANCER PREVENTION & SURVIVAL
Current statistics predict that during our lifetime, 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer. Scientific studies have shown that more than 1/3 of all cancer deaths in the U.S. are due to poor diet, yet most people are unaware of the connection between cancer risk & what they eat. This class looks specifically at the research behind increased prevention & survival rates for those individuals diagnosed with breast cancer. Factors discussed include reduced fat intake, increased consumption of fiber, & exercise. In the lecture, Dr. Neal Barnard highlights various analyses such as the Women's Healthy Eating & Living (WHEL) Study, which reported greater protection from breast cancer when women consumed at least 5 vegetable & fruit servings daily.
Cooking demo: Homestyle Squash & Pinto Beans, Cruciferous Vegetables with Sesame Salt, Mixed Berry Banana Smoothie
Additional recipes will also be included in your packet.
NOTE: Organic ingredients will be used unless unavailable. All foods prepared in this class are 100% plant-based & completely free of dairy, egg, & peanuts. Gluten-free ingredients will be used when possible. Some dishes may contain gluten, but gluten-free alternatives will be provided. Some recipes may include corn or soy, in which case, certified organic non-GMO ingredients will be used. Soy-free options will be provided as well. OUR PHILOSOPHY:
SIMPLE, NUTRITIOUS, DELICIOUS
Our classes teach you how to prepare plant-based dishes, both raw & cooked, that are quick & easy so even busy people with no kitchen experience can make every day. Our recipes also call for ingredients that can be found in any local health food store & most grocery stores. No special ordering of expensive exotic foods required.
We focus on nutrient-dense whole foods that will nourish your body to keep you healthy & give you the energy to get through the day. And we want you to put the best foods available in your body so only organic ingredients are used whenever possible.
But really, it's all about the taste! Eating is an experience that should be enjoyed! We know you won't eat something if you don't like it, no matter how good it is for you. So we make sure our recipes are not just healthy, but satisfying & full of flavor, too.
THERE ARE SO MANY FREE RECIPES ONLINE. WHY TAKE A CLASS?
Yes, you can find plenty of recipes online & videos on YouTube - all for free. But Nourished Body classes are not just about the food; they are about the education. We can teach you more in 1-2 hours than what you might find surfing the internet for an entire day because we have already done the reading & have the experience. A live class provides an opportunity for you to interact with a real person, & ask questions & get practical answers that help you follow a healthy lifestyle every day. We also explain why some things are healthy & others are not. And of course, you also get to try the food to see if you like it before you spend a lot of money on a complicated recipe that calls for ingredients you've never even heard of.
Nourished Body classes are also about community. Attending a class makes you part of a group of like-minded people who are there to support you & your healthy lifestyle. We always have lively discussions about various topics (not always food-related), & many participants share their knowledge & experience so you get to learn from them as well.
