The Course: Join us to learn and cultivate the heart of enlightened altruism. Karma Trinlay Rinpoche will introduce and offer the taking of the Bodhisattva Vow. While the teachings will be made available via broadcast, the Bodhisattva vow itself will be given in person.
Teacher: Karma Trinlay Rinpoche is a highly accomplished Buddhist teacher born in 1975 to an American mother and a French father. His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa recognized the 13-month-old Rinpoche as the reincarnation of an important Buddhist master.
In 1978 Trinlay Rinpoche started the traditional training of tulkus under the guidance of the Venerable Kalu Rinpoche in India. Rinpoche is trilingual with equal competence in English, French, and Tibetan.
From age ten onward Karma Trinlay Rinpoche mainly lived in France where he received a traditional Western education conjointly with his Buddhist education. He later pursued academic studies in Paris at the Sorbonne, the School of Oriental Languages, and at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes.
Karma Trinlay Rinpoche holds in particular great reverence the late 14th Shamarpa as his principal root teacher from whom he received: the unparalleled teachings of Mahamudra, and especially, as the sole recipient, the very special and highest oral transmission not written in any text pertaining to the Joining of the Two Rivers of Mahamudra and Mind Training teachings.
A charismatic speaker, Karma Trinlay Rinpoche is respected for his lucid mind and diligence in both study and practice. He has taught in Buddhist centers and universities throughout the world where people widely appreciate his inner calm, sweet disposition, and sharp mind.
Rinpoche lives in France with his American wife, Giselle de Saint Phalle and their two sons.

Our Curriculum Series
Bodhi Path Santa Barbara offers a multi-year integrated curriculum. Many have found deep and profound peace through studying, reflecting, and meditating on the teachings of the Buddha. The Bodhi Path curriculum is designed to offer western lay students a comprehensive foundation for practice. There is no requirement that a student commit to studying the curriculum in its entirety; you are encouraged to join in all or part of this cycle of teachings. Registration for each course is required.
The Bodhi Path curriculum is based on the teachings of Mind Training (Tibetan: Lojong), a profound system of contemplative practices that helps bring mindfulness, awareness and insight to our experiences, both on and off the meditation cushion. These teachings have been preserved by an unbroken lineage of masters since the time of the Buddha, and are presented at all Bodhi Path centers, along with supporting practices and study topics.

The Santa Barbara Bodhi Path Buddhist Center offers a high quality curriculum of instruction in Buddhist meditation practice and philosophy. The Center was founded in 1997 at the direction of Shamar Rinpoche. Since then, hundreds of students have come to learn and practice in a modern, non-sectarian environment focused on authentic Buddhist teachings taught and practiced by authentic teachers. We are a diverse community of practitioners encompassing all ages and levels of practice. Dawa Tarchin Phillips is the resident teacher, and we regularly host visiting teachers.
