The Course: Through the practice of six transcendent qualities - Generosity, Ethics, Patience, Joyful Perseverance, Meditative Concentration, and Insight - known in Sanskrit as "Paramitas"- we cross from a state of dissatisfaction and delusion (Samsara) to the experience and realization of wellbeing and natural awakening. Learning about them from a qualified teacher is the first step on this authentic path of personal transformation.

Teacher: A Buddhist monk for over 25 years, Tsony completed two traditional three-year retreats under the guidance of the late great meditation master Gendun Rinpoche. For fifteen years he was the Abbot of Kundreul Ling Monastery in France where hundreds of Westerners have completed traditional three-year retreats.
He has been teaching at Bodhi Path centers since 1999, many of those years under the spiritual guidance of the late 14th Shamarpa. In 2005, he began the transfer of his responsibilities at the Kundreul Ling community in order to concentrate on nurturing the growing Bodhi Path projects in Europe and the US.
In 2007, after choosing to adopt the lifestyle of a lay Dharma teacher, he left the monastic community to be fully available for his new responsibilities. Since then, Tsony has devoted his time to teaching Tibetan Buddhism and meditation practice.
In 2008, Tsony married Wendelin, a teacher and administrator in innovative education, from California.
Since 2009, following the 14th Shamarpa's advice, the couple has been living in the US at the Natural Bridge Bodhi Path center, where Tsony serves as the resident teacher.

Our Curriculum Series
Bodhi Path Santa Barbara offers a multi-year integrated curriculum program starting in Jan 2020. Many have found deep and profound peace through studying, reflecting, and meditating on the teachings of the Buddha. The Bodhi Path curriculum is designed to offer western lay students a comprehensive foundation for practice. There is no requirement that a student commit to studying the curriculum in its entirety; you are encouraged to join in all or part of this cycle of teachings. Registration for each course is required.
The Bodhi Path curriculum is based on the teachings of Mind Training (Tibetan: Lojong), a profound system of contemplative practices that helps bring mindfulness, awareness and insight to our experiences, both on and off the meditation cushion. These teachings have been preserved by an unbroken lineage of masters since the time of the Buddha, and are presented at all Bodhi Path centers, along with supporting practices and study topics.

The Santa Barbara Bodhi Path Buddhist Center offers a high quality curriculum of instruction in Buddhist meditation practice and philosophy. The Center was founded in 1997 at the direction of Shamar Rinpoche. Since then, hundreds of students have come to learn and practice in a modern, non-sectarian environment focused on authentic Buddhist teachings taught and practiced by authentic teachers. We are a diverse community of practitioners encompassing all ages and levels of practice. Dawa Tarchin Phillips is the resident teacher, and we regularly host visiting teachers.
