Workshop Session I
Treasurers: The treasurer's workshop will cover basic treasurer responsibilities and include financial reporting, internal control, compliance, and audit issues.
Moderators – Policies your church needs (Part I of a II part series): This session we will discuss why churches need to have policies in place and describe some of the "must have" policies. During the last part of the session we will work on drafting (or revising) and then adopting a policy (or its revision/amendment) for your specific church. If you are able, bring a list of the policies your church currently has.
Safe Conduct for Churches: Policies, procedures, and training in safe conduct: protect children, youth, frail adults, and church leaders. Find resources for your church in making our churches safe for all.
Teens, Sex and Faith: In a study on sexuality, teens say faith and church matter--but aren't always helpful. Find out what the church could be doing to help teens through a complicated topic.
Emergency Preparedness: Learn what Project 52, faith-based preparedness, is doing for communities. This workshop will encourage you to be prepared for emergencies by planning ahead and not be dependent on the government.
Songwriting (Part I of a II part series): Develop the skills to conceptualize, conceive and create your song for yourself or ministry. No prior musical skills are necessary.
Workshop Section II
Moderators– Policies your church needs (Part II of II): This session will be helpful not only to those churches with policies in place, but also to those who are working to create and adopt policies. There will be a discussion of the options available for your church to enforce various types of policies, including education, training, and procedural "lock step enforcement". If time permits, the group will look at hypothetical situations for which a breach of policy may have occurred and come up with a strategy for enforcement.
Civil Unions: Civil unions become law on January 1, 2012. What rights do ministers have to perform, or not, and churches to host, or not, civil union ceremonies?
Planned Giving: Now is the time to create a Planned Giving program in your church. This workshop will give you information on why you should consider a Planned Giving Program and how to get one started.
Church Insurance: This workshop will outline insurance coverage provided by the Insurance Board. A copy of your church's insurance policy will be provided for review at the workshop. Sign-up is required for this workshop.
Getting Ready in Hawai‘i: Within our unique island setting, churches face special challenges to prepare for the array of disasters and weather-related emergencies we face. Learn simple steps churches can take to be better prepared and to develop its mission when disasters occur.
Songwriting (Part II of II): Continues earlier songwriting workshop.
