This is a two-part training series on preserving family integrity and unity. Both sessions must be attended for five (5) social work or mental health counselor continuing education credits.
This training is designed for a multidisciplinary audience of judges, attorneys, social services professionals, service providers and other stakeholders. The goals of this training program include identifying ways to help shrink “the system” and mitigate the harms of government intervention into families by eliminating unnecessary and harmful interventions, providing useful and beneficial supports where helpful, and minimizing time that families are separated. The program will examine state and federal laws that require family preservation, put a human face on what is happening to families at each stage of child welfare involvement, and show what state families are left in as a result of interventions and processes, better or worse.
