Study,
Reflect,
Meditate.
A week-long joint program combining a teaching on the Heart Sutra by Professor Lara Braitstein and a meditation intensive led by Dharma Teacher Tsony.
February 19-25, 2012
Bodhi Path Natural Bridge
The Heart Sutra describes the experience of liberation of the bodhisattva of compassion, Avalokitesvara, as a result of insight gained while engaged in deep meditation. This understanding of the fundamental emptiness of all phenomena is expressed in the celebrated phrase from the Heart Sutra, "Form is emptiness; emptiness is form.” Professor Braitstein will explain these profound words and illuminate the meaning of this treasured text.
Meditation: Dharma Teacher Tsony will help us absorb the meaning of the Heart Sutra through meditation. Instruction is based on methods presented in Shamar Rinpoche’s book, The Path to Awakening.
Lara Braitstein is a professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism at McGill University (Montreal, Canada). She specializes in Mahayana & Vajrayana Buddhist Philosophy, Buddhist Hagiography, and Tibetan/Himalayan Buddhist literature and historiography. Her latest projects include the editing and translation of Shamar Rinpoche’s book The Path To Awakening, and the translation of a series of Mahamudra poems by the 7th century C.E. mystic saint Saraha.
Tsony was a Buddhist monk for over 25 years. He completed two traditional 3-year retreats under the guidance of the great meditation master Gendun Rinpoche. For 15 years, Tsony was Abbot of Kundrel Ling Monastery in France. Since 1991, he has been teaching philosophy and meditation throughout Europe and the U.S., and since 2009, has been the resident teacher at Bodhi Path Natural Bridge.
