Meditation according to the Buddha’s teachings is a necessary support to attain liberation. The various forms, starting with the meditation of calm abiding (Shamatha or Shiné), serve to train the mind. The point is to subdue the constant, inner distractions, to attain a calmer, more peaceful mind. This establishes the stability of mind which is the foundation for any further progress on the path to awakening.
At this course, Trinlay Rinpoche will explain the nine stages of Shiné meditation, which is an essential pillar in the Bodhi Path curriculum of practice. At the same time, he will also provide remedies to the obstacles that may arise, so bring your questions about practice.
This program is suitable for students of all levels, newcomers and seasoned practitioners alike.
Refuge vows may be offered at the end of the Saturday teaching. Vows will be given in-person only. We may also be able to offer brief group interviews with Rinpoche for students. Karma Trinlay Rinpoche is a genuine bridge between the East and the West, the traditional and the modern. A highly accomplished Buddhist teacher, he was born in 1975 to an American mother and a French father. His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa recognized the 13-month-old Rinpoche as a tulku, the reincarnation of an important Buddhist master. In 1978 Trinlay Rinpoche started the traditional training of tulkus under the guidance of the Venerable Kalu Rinpoche in India. Rinpoche is trilingual with equal competence in English, French, and Tibetan.
Since age 10, Karma Trinlay Rinpoche has lived primarily in France where he received a traditional Western education conjointly with his Buddhist education. He later pursued academic studies in Paris at Western Universities.
Karma Trinlay Rinpoche holds in particular great reverence the late 14th Shamarpa as his principal root teacher from whom he received the unparalleled teachings of Mahamudra, and especially, as the sole recipient, the very special and highest oral transmission not written in any text pertaining to the Joining of the Two Rivers of Mahamudra and Mind Training teachings.
A charismatic speaker, Karma Trinlay Rinpoche is respected for his lucid mind and diligence in both study and practice. He has taught around the world where people widely appreciate his inner calm, sweet disposition, sharp mind, and precise teaching style.
Rinpoche lives in France with his American wife, Giselle de Saint Phalle and their two sons.
