Liberia has 178 years as a nation--the first independent republic country in all of Africa. The single star is representative of that. The 11 stripes on their flag represent the 11 signers of their Declaration of Independence.
The flag's resemblance to the USA flag symbolozes the nation's closeness to the USA since it was former slaves from the USA who helped found the country of Liberia. The current president is Joseph Boakai. The country is about the size of Tennessee or Ohio.
