In recognition of May as National Foster Care Awareness Month, the Child Welfare Court Improvement Project and the Lived Experience Advisory Group for Child Welfare and Family Court Practice, “LEAG”, is hosting a 90-minute program, moderated by Coral Mrozik and Deonna Jones, Esq., with a panel of Family Court judges, multidisciplinary practitioners, and lived experts, to review requirements, policies, initiatives, and best practices for engaging youth, building supports, and strengthening opportunities. You will hear directly from Lived Experts who will tell you about their experience of foster care and the legal/court system and share their thoughts on how to improve the system, its policies, and practices. The Lived Experts will also share what they are doing to change and improve the system themselves.
This is a multidisciplinary training offered to judges, attorneys, social service professionals, community providers, and people with lived experience in the child welfare and legal/judicial system across NYS. Participants will become more trauma aware and learn best practices and skills to better help children and the families who encounter the system.
