Life of Practice: Bringing Realization Into the World
A Five-Day Residential Retreat Opening on Lhabab Düchen Led by Dawa Tarchin Phillips
Sunday, November 1, 5:00pm–Thursday November 5, 12:00pm at Camp Ramah, Ojai, CA
What does it mean to live what we realize?
In the Buddhist tradition, realization is not meant to remain separate from life. The path invites us to bring insight, compassion, and wisdom into our bodies, our speech, our relationships, our work, and our response to the challenges of the world.
This five-day retreat is part of the Life of Practice series and explores awakening not as a distant spiritual ideal, but as a way of daily living. Through meditation, guided practice, Dharma teachings, contemplative dialogue, silence, and embodiment practice, we will explore how insight becomes integrated into body, speech, mind, relationship, action, service, and beneficial presence.
The retreat opens on Lhabab Düchen, a traditional Buddhist day commemorating the Buddha’s return from a heavenly realm after teaching the Dharma to his mother and celestial beings. For this retreat, we will receive this story as both sacred history and living symbol: wisdom does not remain above life. It returns. It descends into the world as compassion, clarity, and beneficial action. Together, we will explore how realization becomes available in the way we speak, listen, love, lead, parent, serve, and meet life.
Whether you are new to meditation, have practiced for many years, or are drawn to Buddhism through science, self-discovery, leadership, healing, or the search for a more conscious way of living, all are welcome.

The Santa Barbara Bodhi Path Buddhist Center offers a high quality curriculum of instruction in Buddhist meditation practice and philosophy. The Center was founded in 1997 at the direction of Shamar Rinpoche. Since then, hundreds of students have come to learn and practice in a modern, non-sectarian environment focused on authentic Buddhist teachings taught and practiced by authentic teachers. We are a diverse community of practitioners encompassing all ages and levels of practice. Dawa Tarchin Phillips is the resident teacher, and we regularly host visiting teachers.
