"The Who's Tommy" Auditions
Directed by Bill Otten. Musical Direction by Charles Santoro. Choreography by Julia Knitel.
“Tommy” is a tale of a young boy’s journey from pain to triumph and is one of the most electrifying stage shows of rock and roll ever to play in a theatre. After witnessing the accidental murder of his mother's lover by his father, Tommy is traumatized into a state of apparent unresponsiveness. As the boy grows, he suffers abuse at the hands of his sadistic relatives and neighbors. As an adolescent, he’s discovered to have an uncanny knack for playing pinball, and when his mother finally breaks through his unresponsive state, he becomes an international pinball superstar. The exhilarating score is timeless in its youthful appeal, giving the show a cross-generational attraction that has made it a smash-hit around the world.
Those auditioning need to come prepared with 32 bars of pop/rock music (no traditional Broadway music, per the director). Please bring your own sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. Women need to be prepared with both heels and flats. Everyone will need to be prepared to dance. Casting includes 2 male/youth performers who need to portray/look ages 4 & 10. Parents need to be familiar with the show and the storyline.
